Directions
There are two main routes to Emoyeni from Johannesburg:
via the R512 (Malibongwe Drive) or the R511 (Winnie Mandela Drive, formerly William Nicol Drive). The R512 is often quicker and generally in better condition.
R512 route
Malibongwe Drive
Follow the R512 (Malibongwe Drive) north from Randburg, continuing past Lanseria Airport on the right, to a T-junction near Broederstroom. Turn left here to remain on the R512 towards Magaliesburg and Broederstroom (do not turn right onto the R104 towards Pretoria).
Stay on this road for approximately 15 km, passing through Broederstroom. You will pass a shopping centre on your right shortly before the road curves left, with Pecanwood Estate on the right after the curve.
About 3 km after Pecanwood, turn right where signposted R512 / N4. Cross the bridge over the dam and continue onto the N4 towards Rustenburg.
Take the Mooinooi off-ramp and turn left onto Lonrho Drive. Drive straight, past the SuperSpar shopping complex on the left, and at the crossroads at the end of Mooinooi, turn right onto the R104. Continue slowly for approximately 1 km, then take the second left, signposted to Barnardsvlei.
The road is tarred for about 2 km. This section is potholed in places and is best driven slowly. The road then becomes a wide dirt farm road. After approximately 500 m on the dirt road (about 2.5 km from the start of Barnardsvlei Road), take the left-hand turn onto a narrow farm road. There is an EMOYENI signpost here among a small cluster of signs. Please do not turn off Barnardsvlei Road before this point, even if your navigation device suggests doing so. Continue until you see the EMOYENI sign, then turn left.
From here, follow the Emoyeni signs. Continue along the farm road for approximately 1.3 km to a T-junction, facing gates marked “Rand Water – Private Road”. There is another EMOYENI signboard here. Turn left and follow the farm road for approximately 700 m to the next EMOYENI signboard. Do not turn in at the large Buffelshoek entrance. Continue straight ahead, then turn right at the large sign marked EMOYENI / A65. Follow the winding track to a fork in the road with a Buddhist stupa made of stones, go left for a further
500 m to the house, where you can register at reception. If you’ve been here before, you could take the right fork and park in the car park at the top.
R511 route
Winnie Mandela (William Nicol) Drive
Follow the R511 (Winnie Mandela Drive) north. Shortly after the residential are of Laezonia AH, take the left-hand turn-off to stay on the R511 (this turn is easy to miss). Continue straight.
As you approach Hartbeespoort Dam, you will pass through a series of stop streets and eventually see the dam on your left. On this section of the road, you will reach a point where the R511 branches off to the right. Do not turn here – continue straight ahead, even though the road name changes as it passes through the suburbs.
Continue straight through the tunnel and cross the Hartbeespoort Dam Wall. At the four-way stop north of Hartbeespoort Dam – where there is a craft market during the day, as well as shops and two Engen garages – continue straight onto the R104 towards Rustenburg / Brits / Sun City. At the Sasol garage (on left) turn right and then left onto the N4.
